CCB police recover Rs 5 crore worth pendant; nab accused in Mumbai robbery case

Mangaluru: An accused residing in Bikarnakatte was arrested on Wednesday, August 10, in connection to a robbery that took place in Mumbai last month. The city crime branch (CCB) team led by inspector Sunil Y Nayak led the operation and recovered ruby and other valuable stones worth Rs 5 crore.
The arrested has been identified as K S Yunus (42). A pendant made of a ruby, diamonds and gold was recovered from him by the police. The pendant was reportedly robbed from a Mumbai-based businessman who was kidnapped in July.

On credible information, the CCB raided an under-construction building in Bikarnakatte where another accused named Talat and Yunus met in a car to sell off the pendant illegally. Yunus was arrested and the pendant and car was seized. Talat, who is accused in many cases, managed to flee.

The businessman was kidnapped in Mumbai in July by Yunus, Talat and their associates Likhit Gopal Shetty, Naseer Ahmed Khan of Mumbai, Fakir Mohammed alias Shameer Sheikh, Gautam Anant Kadam, Prateek Alok Moyithi and Shameer alias Hasan Khan. They had robbed the pendant and trying to sell it in Hassan.

A case was registered at in Bandra Kurla Complex police station in Mumbai. The Mumbai police exchanged information with their Mangaluru counterparts in July.

The recovered items along with the car have been handed over to Mangaluru east police.
