Kasargod: The Cochin CBI Special Court on May 17, convicted two accused in connection with the murder of Youth Congress worker Balakrishna (25).

The CBI court convicted Mohammed Iqbal, a resident of Chettanjal and Mohammed Hanif of Thalangere. The CBI court has acquitted three other accused i.e., Abdul Gafoor, A M Mohammed, and Aboobakar, of all charges in the case.

It may be recalled that on September 18, 2001, a group of men kidnapped Balakrishna in a car and brutally murdered him near Chandragiri river in Kasargod.

As the Kasargod Police failed to apprehend the culprits, Balakrishna’s family had appealed to the Kerala High Court for a high level probe into the case. Later, the Kerala government handed over the case to CBI.
