
Mangaluru: To be doing good deeds is man’s most glorious task. The task assumes more significance when one does his bit in whatever way he can to educate others.
Recognising that education plays an important role while shaping an individuals future, CAUSE, a group consisting of students and Alumni of the St. Aloysius PU College on June 20 carried out a noble endeavour of distributing notebooks to 82 needy students here.
The programme commenced with an invocation and a prayer song. Mangaluru Deputy Commissioner of Police Hanumanthraya graced the event as its chief guest. Former MCC Mayor Sashidhar Hegde was the guest of honour.
Speaking on the occasion, DCP Hanumanthraya raised the issue of increasing drug and mobile abuse among youth nowadays and urged the students to refrain from such activities while channelising their energy towards other activities, which includes sports and book reading. He appreciated the efforts of the college students who came forth to help the needy fellow students with this noble act.
“Reduce your dependency on mobile phones. Our ancestors have lived without one and we too can,” DCP told the students while asking them to strictly abide by the traffic rules. He wished all the students success in their lives and urged them to lend a helping hand to others in the society.
In his address, Sasidhar Hegde while reminding the students of the proud legacy of the institution asked them to heed to the DCP’s advice since it was for their own well-being. He too lauded the initiative of the college students, alumni and requested others to take a cue from them and carry forward such noble acts.
In his presidential address, Fr. Melwyn Mendonca Sj-Principal of St. Aloysius PUC said, “Our institution strives to instill good values among its students. Since the inception of CAUSE four years ago, the students have displayed their humane side by coming forth to help the needy and their efforts make me nothing but proud.
Mehek Pinto, Secretary of SAPUC Students’ Council proposed a vote of thanks. The programme was compered by Rahul Kamath, member of the CAUSE Committee.
