Catholics rally to protest christian killings in Iraq

Mangalore: Nearly 600 catholics under the aegis of the United Christian Association and Infant Jesus Shrine Bikarnakatte, responded to the Pope’s appeal and marched silently with lit candles from the Infant Jesus Shrine to the St. Brigit Convent, Bikarnakatte, here on September 9 at 6.30 PM.

A prayer session was held before the start of the march at the Infant Jesus Shrine and also at the convent at the end of the march.

The superior of the Infant Jesus Shrine Fr Alias D’Souza called the gathered to pray for the Christians in Iraq. He further said, “We have come here to pray. Let God turn the hearts of terrorists and let the Christians in Iraq be shown mercy”.

The Mangalore City Police were present in large numbers at the Nanthtoor Junction to maintain public safety and regulate traffic.
