Moodabidri: A 45-year-old man has been arrested on charges of attempting to rape a girl here in Beluvai in Moodabidri.

The incident came to light after the girl’s father filed a complaint.

It is learnt that the accused, Shakir alias Bismilla Hangappu who runs a canteen in Beluvai, tried to sexually assault the girl when she had been to his canteen to get a parcel. The girl lives in a rented house nearby.

The police, based on the complaint have arrested the accused. He has been sent to 14 days judicial custody.
