Mangaluru: The Central Arecanut and Cocoa Marketing and Processing Cooperative Ltd. (CAMPCO) will export first consignment of two tonnes of processed tender arecanut to China during first week of August on a pilot basis.

The Indian areca will be used by a company in Hunan province to churn out mouth fresheners. The project materialises after a delegation of the CAMPCO visited the province from June 13 for six days. The cooperative and the company have held three rounds of talks since July last and have signed a memorandum of understanding.

Addressing presspersons here on Tuesday, S.R. Satishchandra, president, CAMPCO, said that the company plans to prepare mouth freshener from the peel of the tender arecanut and to meet the requirement for the first consignment, the CAMPCO intendes to procure tender arecanuts from Tamil Nadu and Wayanad areas.
