Kasargod: The revised bus fare will be in place in Kasargod from tomorrow, March 1 and with this the minimum fare has been hiked from Rs 7 to 8 for state-run buses. The minimum fare for fast passenger will go up from Rs 10 to 11 and super fast service from Rs 13 to 15.

The fare per kilometre too has been hiked.

While there has been no hike proposed towards minimum travel fare of students, they will have to bear a 25 per cent increase after the minimum fare. It may be recalled that the private bus owners’ association had staged indefinite stir demanding hike in students’ fare. But the government had not paid heed for this demand.

Super Express services operating in the state and outside will have the minimum fare up from existing Rs 20 to Rs 22 while minimum fare for super deluxe and semi-sleeper services will go up from Rs 28 to Rs 30. Hi-tech and air-conditioned luxury services too will witness a hike in minimum fare by four rupees, ie from Rs 40 to Rs 44. The Volvo buses will have their minimum fare up by Rs 5, ie from Rs 40 to Rs 45.

However the private bus operators have termed the fare hike as ‘inadequate’ and have hence decided to hold a meeting in Kochi on Thursday. The fare was last hiked in the state in 2014.
