Mangaluru: Former MLC and BJP leader Monappa Bhandary condemned the stay order issued by the state government on the move to name the Light House Hill Road from Jyothi circle to Catholic Club as Mulki Sunder Ram Shetty Road following a letter from the local MLA J R Lobo.

Monappa bhandary told the press, “We have highest respect for the prestigious institution which has provided education to numerous students and equally for Mulki Sundaram Shetty who also has contributed immensely to the society in banking sector. With political interest, unnecessarily Lobo is creating confusion.”

Terming MLA J R Lobo responsible for the “unnecessary confusion,” Monappa Bhandary said, “On 30 September 2015, the MCC in its general meeting unanimously accepted the proposal to name the Light House Hill Road as Mulki Sunder Ram Shetty Road. Though the proposal was unanimously accepted, no corporators, MLA or MLC objected to it. Later when the MCC requested objection for the proposal through advertisement on February 24 in 2016 none filed it. After the police commissioner wrote to DC there will be no law and order issue in the matter, Deputy Commissioner has moved proposal to the state government. State government after examining it thoroughly on 24 May 2017 passed the order to name the Light House Hill Road as Mulki Sundaram Shetty Road.”

Bhandary also stated that there was no proof in maps, google or in yellow pages that it was St. Aloysius Road but it is written as Light House Hill Road. For political gains MLA JR Lobo and MLC Ivan D’ Souza have brought stay orders from the government, he alleged.

Slamming MLA JR Lobo he also said that he was not MLA of a particular community but of the entire society. “If he had raised objections then the proposal when it was called for officially, the proposal would have been dropped in MCC Council meeting. The proposal was unanimously accepted in the corporation. This clearly shows that it is politically motivated. MLA is unnecessarily creating problem in the society. He should also reveal what he has written to the government. He wrote it on July 1 and within 3 hours of its receipt, stay orders have been issued”, he claimed.

Vedhavyasa Kamath, Kishore Rai and others were present.
