Mangaluru: Chief Minister of Puducherry Velu Narayanasamy on May 1, termed Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP National President Amit Shah as opportunists and said that they wanted to continue enjoying power in this country by hook or crook.

 

Addressing a press meet at the Congress office here, Narayanasamy said, “Narendra Modi government has cheated the people of the country for four years and even one percent of the promises made to the people has not been implemented in the past four years.”

 

He also stated that the Siddaramaiah-led Congress government in Karnataka had fulfilled 98 percent of the promises given to the people in the last five years.

 

Comparing the achievements of Modi and Siddaramaiah on farm loan waiver, he said that the Modi government had failed to return even one paisa of the farmers whereas Siddaramaiah, who knows the pain and anguish of the farmers, had waived off farmers’ loan.

 

“The prime minister who says that he will not indulge in corruption and won’t  allow anyone to be involved in corruption, has projected a Yeddyurappa as the chief ministerial candidate for Karnataka. Yeddyurappa had been jailed on corruption charges”, he added.

 

Velu Narayanasamy also said that the NDA government in the centre was implementing the programmes that were introduced by Manmohan Singh during the UPA rule. “The Modi government in the centre has electrified only 18000 households in last four years. But the UPA government had electrified 2,97,000 villages when in power”, he said.

 

“The BJP is concentrating only on communal issues to win the elections”, he added.

 

Accusing the BJP of misusing the CBI, Velu Narayanasamy said, “Now things are coming out-how the cases of Janardhana Reddy have been closed by the CBI.  When I was the minister in charge of the CBI during Manmohan Singh’s government, we never interfered in the investigations by the agency. Even Congress ministers were sent to jail during UPA rule. Narendra Modi government is using the official machinery for political gains. We can no more call the CBI as Central Bureau Investigation. It has turned into Modi Bureau of Investigation.The CBI is totally in the pockets of Amit Shah and Narendra Modi.”

 

He also alleged that the Income Tax department and Enforcement Directorate were being misused to blackmail and tarnish the image of opposition leaders.
