Mangaluru: A list featuring over 35 candidates for the upcoming Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) Council elections was released by the BJP party on Monday, October 28.
The names that stand out in the list are that of former deputy mayor Sumithra Kariya from Baikampady, Sudhir Shetty Kannur from Kodialbail, Premananda Shetty from Mangaladevi, Arshad from Kudroli and Priyanka Suvarna from Bunder.
Despite the elections being held in just two days’ time, the BJP is yet to announce its candidates for the city’s remaining 25 wards while the Congress party has still not announced any of its candidates for the elections.
However, the JD(S) party has said that it has finished compiling a list of 20 candidates which will be released soon.
Candidates turning up to file their nomination papers at the MCC office have been urged not to bring a procession along with them. Acting on police advice, MCC Commissioner S Ajith Kumar Hegde said that such processions will not be granted permission as it results in traffic snarls across the city.
Four candidates have reportedly filed their nominations as of Monday, October 28.
