Mangaluru/Bengaluru: BJP state vice-president Arvind Limbavali informed that the party’s committee, during Thursday’s meeting, the committee decided to revisit the Karnataka Prevention of Cow Slaughter and Preservation Bill 2010, which failed to get the presidential nod previously.

Limbavali added that the committee felt that the bill must be revived considering the present-day situation.

During the meeting, the panel also analyzed the polling data of four legislative council seats – two each from the teachers’ and graduates’ constituencies, Limbavali said, adding that the BJP candidates and party-backed nominees for the council polls will win easily.

Medical Education Minister Dr K Sudhakar, in Bengaluru, also spoke on the matter saying that a ban on cow slaughter is essential as the is country where the cow is not just considered holy but is also prayed to and is considered part of the family. “We cannot allow cow slaughter in this country as it is against the Hindu philosophy. It is against the basic fabric of the country,” he said.

To a query regarding a ban on beef, Dr Sudhakar stated that a ban on cow slaughter would be the first step towards the move. “We should have a thorough discussion at the Cabinet-level. Cow slaughter should be the first step towards a beef ban,” he said.

Meanwhile, as informed by Limbavali, the committee also discussed the probabilities of the December 1 Rajya Sabha by-elections to fill the seat left vacant after the untimely death of Ashok Gasti due to Covid-19.

“The shortlisted names will be sent to the central election committee through state BJP president Nalin Kumar Kateel after which a final decision will be made,” he added.
