Ullal: The Mogaveeras have been facing similar situation like that of Kashmiri pandits. If the government fails to bring such situation under control, the BJP would intensify protest in coming days, cautioned MLC Kota Shirinivas Poojary here on April 16 after meeting deceased fisherman Raju Kotian’s kin.
Poojary visited the house of deceased fisherman and consoled the family members.
“The killing of innocent fisherman like Raju is condemnable. Consequently his wife, mother and other family members who were dependent on him have become helpless. The murder has a communal angle. The mogaveera community members had demanded arrest of the culprits. As per police sources, three accused have been arrested and two main accused are still absconding. The BJP party has taken the matter seriously. I will speak to home minister G Parameshwar by this eveining and demand for a high level probe into this incident. I will also urge home minister to provide security to the community which is being subjected to atrocities for the past several years,” he said.
Varija Kotian, mother of deceased fisherman was inconsolable. She said, “a day before the murder my son had told me that he would bring medicine and socks for me. But he did not return. My son who had been to work was murdered by the miscreants. “
Raju’s mother also alleged that few miscreants have been making false allegations against his wife on Whatsapp. Few newspapers too carried stories against Raju’s wife, which has humiliated the family.
Raju Kotian’s wife, a beedi roller, used to help her husband in looking after the family.
According the family members, Raju Kotian’s family were tortured due to communal clashes in the Ullal area. Many a times, their house was stoned by the miscreants.
