Kasargod: BJP rebel councillor Kanhangad municipality, Ajay Kumar Nellikkat’s house located at Kalyan Road was set afire by unidentified miscreants, partially damaging the house and furniture in the bedroom.

The fire in the uninhabited house was noticed on Friday morning.

The incident has taken place in the midst of reports of Nellikkat planning to return to his parent party with which he left last year, after he was denied ticket to contest the municipal elections.

According to sources, differences of opinion had cropped up over his re-induction into the party among a section of BJP activists at a recent informal meeting in the ward limits.

The police are investigating if the unhappy group is responsible for the fire. The Hosdurg police have registered a case in this regard.
