Kasargod: The BJP has called for a bandh to be observed in Kasargod today, April 8 from 6 am to 6 pm in the backdrop of the death of a 25-year-old youth after he was arrested by the police custody here on Friday, April 7.

The deceased Sandeep, a resident of city near Chowki CPCRI, was an auto driver by profession.

It is gathered that Sandeep alongwith few other persons was habitually consuming liquor in public place and the group would often use abusive language against officials of the nearby Beerantabail Agricultural Produce Centre in Karandakkad. The police on receiving this information raided the spot.

On citing the police the group tried to flee the spot however, three of them were nabbed by the cops. Sandeep who also was trying to escape the police is said to have collapsed in the bid. Though the police immediately took him to a hospital, he died on the way due to a possible heart attack.

Meanwhile Sandeep’s family members as also the BJP and BMS have accused the police of atrocity leading to his death. A protest was also staged in front of the Kasargod police station demanding action against the cops.
