Mangaluru: Leaders of Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Tuesday criticized the Central government – which is led by the BJP – for advocating communal and neoliberal agenda, thereby sidelining the working class.

The speakers were addressing the concluding ceremony of the 21st Dakshina Kannada district convention, organized by CPI (M) here in the city.

MP and former union minister P.K Shrimathy criticized BJP for favoring the Multi-National Companies (MNCs) and corporate companies. She said, “The ‘Make in India’ concept of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is nothing but pro- industrialism. Instead, the union government must adopt ‘Work in India’ project, to ensure employment for all, she added.

Ms. Shrimathy also condemned the Union government for engaging in publicity and gimmick. “Clean India campaign is only in front of the media. The women in India take the broom every morning to sweep their premises. Do they come in papers?, The government must do concrete works, she said adding that over 60 lakh households do not have toilets which needs government programs.

G.V Sreerama Reddy, state general secretary, CPI (M) said the congress and the BJP are the two faces of the same coin. Their economic policies are the same. They favour Multi-National Companies and loot the country. No party works for the working class, he said.

He noted that the BJP came to power in the centre as the country was fed up of the Congress rule. Similarly, the congress came to power in the state, after BJP’ failure in administration. Ever since the parliament elections, BJP is engaged in spreading lies. BJP which had opposed few policies in the opposition such as Aadhar card, have adopted it. black money. All these are to fool the public, he added.

Over 2,000 people took part in the convention. Vasanth Achari, Sunil Kumar Bajal, Muneer Katipalla were among others present.
