Mangaluru: The city is likely to come to a standstill on Friday with autorikshaws, buses remaining off road, in response to the Bharat Bandh called for today.
Meanwhile few miscreants pelted stones at Bengaluru-Manipal bound KSRTC bus near Padil and K S Rao road on September 2. In Kuthar, on the outskirts of Ullal, Surathkal and some of the places inside Mangaluru city, tyres were burnt on the road as mark of protest.

An youth from Sirsi who had been to Mangaluru for treatment with a broken leg was left in lurch as auto rtikshaws were off road due to bandh. However, he was later shifted to the hospital in an ambulance.

However, general public, students and employees might find it difficult to access these services with transportation being affected badly. Most schools are likely to remain closed even though the district administration has not declared holiday.

The nation wide Bandh has been called by All India Road Transport Workers’ Union and others against the newly proposed Road Transport Safety Bill by the central government. The protesters allege that the bill proposes hefty fine on traffic offenders and others. The union called the bill as “anti workers bill,” which by and large affects the daily chores of common man’s life. Other unions like goods and public transport, auto-rickshaw drivers’ associations, private transport unions and others too have extended their support for the bandh.
