Mangaluru: Dont be surprised if  you get a phone call or a strong message from your Facebook friend accusing you of posting obscene pictures or videos and tagging them to it. Its all happening without your knowledge. It appears to be the result of a mass hackathon by unidentified persons.

Rakshith H S of Puttur informed Newskarnataka.com that his Facebook account was hacked after he clicked a link sent by his friend. “My friend sent a link to my Facebook inbox saying your video has been uploaded and to see the video click the link. He said that after he clicked the link, the link automatically got posted to the Facebook walls of 20 friends, tagging them all, and also getting into their respective inboxes.

He said he sent a message to his friends informing his account was hacked. He has now deactivated his account. In another case, a female user Ramya (name changed) told Newskarnataka.com that many of her friends’ accounts were hacked. She said “I saw many friends’ home page showing them tagged with vulgar posts.

This is how it works: Grishma Jagadish (name changed) is tagged in a post posted by Namita Rao (name changed). Namita Rao shares a link with Grishma Jagadish and 17 others.

Ramya told Newskarnataka.com this phenomenon has been going viral among her friends and colleagues.

For Facebook users

In order to prevent the hacker from hacking into your inbox Facebook users can follow two precautions – change your password immediately and avoid clicking on links ostensibly from friends.
