Kasargod : There have been no arrests so far in the case wherein some unidentified assailants who arrived by a bike opened fire at PWD contractor Mohammad Kunhi’s house at Bevinje on July 18, Thursday.
Meanwhile, a police official said there was a suspicion that the gang of dreaded underworld don Ravi Poojari might be involved in this incident.
It is learnt, the office of a local Malayalam daily had also received a call allegedly by the perpetrators of the act, stating that the Ravi Poojari gang was behind the shoot-out.
It may be mentioned here that some bike bound assailants had opened fire at the house when the contractor and his son had been to the mosque for prayers. Kunhi’s wife and mother-in-law who were at home had raised an alarm forcing the men to flee but not before firing at the house. A bullet had pierced through the wall and had broken a window pane into pieces.
Three years ago, there was a similar attack on Kunhi’s house by some underworld elements who had demanded Rs 50 crore hafta from the businessman.
A police team led by SP Thomson Jose has visited the house and investigations are underway.
