Mangalore:”Established in 1838 AD, having the credit of one of the oldest institutions of the state, The “Basel Mission Educational Institutions” will celebrate 175th anniversary of their institution this year”, said Mr.Walter Maben, the president of 175th anniversary celebrations committee.
He was addressing the media in the press meet held in the centenary hall of BEM institutions today.
He daid that,MLA J R Lobo will hoist the Institution flag, while Philomena Lobo, principal, District Institute of Education and Training (DIET) will inaugurate the ceremony by lighting the lamp at the formal stage programme.
He also said that Dr M Mohan Alva, founder of Alva’s Educational Institution and honorary president of the 175th anniversary celebrations committee will launch the logo of 175th celebration, while Rev. Dr.Hannibal Cabral, principal of Karnataka Theological College will launch the website of the institution.
Mr.Maben said that the event will be preceded by the procession by the management, students, old students of BEM intuition accompanied by dancing dolls, yakshagana artists and tiger dancers, which will commence from the BEM grounds and conclude at same venue via Navbharath Circle, City Centre, Sharavu Temple and car-street.
Speaking on the school buildings, he said that about 50% of the existing buildings are 100 years old with 450 students studying in various classes from primary school to the pre-university college. At present there are 70 students in lower primary, 84 in higher primary, 120 in high school and 150 at PU level.
Committee vice president Alwyn Colaco,treasurer Alwyn Ananda, chief’s of the various schools of BEM institutions and others were present at the occasion.
