Belthangady: ABVP celebrates the release of student Hindu activist

Belthangady: After two consecutive massive student protests led by Akhila Bharatiya Vidhyarthi Paishat (ABVP) in Ujire demanding the release of the arrestee in Karaya communal clash, student leader Nidhish Shetty along with others booked in the case were released on bail on February 4, Wednesday.

The students hailing from SDM College Ujire and members of ABVP held two huge protests lamenting the arrest as injustice. The students claimed that their leader Shetty was innocent and his arrest was politically motivated. However the students threatened to intensify the protests, had Nidhish and others not been let out of the jail.

Nidhish shetty, a Hindu nationalist student leader was arrested in connection to the communal violence erupted at Mosque near Karaya. It is said that pelting of stones fumed violence thus damaging the mosque. Many others along with Shetty were arrested. He was charged with section 395 of the IPC for alleged robbery in the Masjid. 

According to the sources he was caught in the CCTV throwing stones. The police also found ID cards of students, aftermath to the melee at the mosque.

Accused were produced in court on Wednesday, following which they were released on bail. The sources from Ujire told that B.com student from Ujire, had earlier involved in petty fights on religions lines and he was warned by the college authority. The ABVP celebrated his release in the night hours of February 5 carrying the accused in the procession.
