Mangaluru: A video showing grocery kits that were originally provided by the Adani (UPCL) group allegedly being distributed with the labels of Politician Belapu Deviprasad Shetty has gone viral recently.

In the video, it can be seen that if you peel back the sticker that bears Shetty’s name and image the Adani (UPCL) group’s name printed on bag becomes visible.

It is alleged that Shetty has put his stickers over the name of the Adani Group, the actual donor of kits, concealing it to show that it is he who is donating the kits. Along with his name, Shetty has also printed the slogan ‘Stay Home and Stay Safe’.

After the video went viral, many criticised Shetty’s move to try and gain name and publicity.

When contacted, Deviprasad Shetty rubbished the allegations and informed newskarnataka.com that his intention was not to gain publicity.

”My intention was not to conceal anyone’s name. I have disbursed over 2,100 kits with the help of donors like G Shankar, M N Rajendra Kumar and others. I have put my sticker only to create awareness about the need to stay home to prevent the spread of Covid-19,” he said.

Meanwhile, Shetty clarified that the Adani Group has given only 100 kits. “But, I have disbursed grocery kits worth over Rs 15 lakhs on my own. The donors have trust in me that I won’t misuse their help. Someone who is unable to digest my popularity is spreading misinformation about me,” he added.
