Bekal cops bust chain snatching racket; trio arrested

Kasargod: A police team led by Bekal sub-inspectors A Damodaran and Narayanan has arrested three persons of a chain snatching racket.

The arrested are  Ahmed Ramsan (19), Ahmed Azaruddin TA (22) of Koolikunnu and  AK Ummar (24) of Poinachi Paramba.

It is learnt the chain snatchers used to move around in bikes and  snatch the chain of lone women. The police who were investigating into the case of snatching the gold chain of Madhavi (57) of Paniyal on June 15, zeroed in  on the culprits.

Two robbers who came by a bike  had snatched the three and a half sovereign weighing gold chain of Madhavi during broad daylight in the town. However, as the chain broke while snatching it, a piece of it fell on the ground and another piece weighing one sovereign was  taken away by the thieves.

The  gold was sold in a jewellery shop at Kanhangad by Azaruddin, an associate of Ummar and Ramsan.

The arrested trio have admitted that the bike which they were using was stolen from Palakunnu. They have also revealed that they stole another bike from Ullal.

Police have gathered information that the accused  were wanted in many other cases. Investigations are underway.
