Kaup : A poor family hailing from Mallar in Kaup is today shelterless and is living in a temporary shelter with tarpaulin roofing, thanks to the apathy of the authorities in sanctioning funds to the family which is a beneficiary of the Government’s Basava Housing Scheme.
In the words of Chongla Poojari, a poor labourer, he has been running from pillar to post since six months to get sanctioned Rs 20,000 as part of second installment after the cheque issued by the department concerned on March 21 bounced.
The family of Chongla comprising his wife Sarojini who is blind and a daughter had applied for grants under the scheme as it was living in a dilapidated house. When he was selected under the scheme, he initiated works on his new house after demolishing his old house. He even received the first installment of grants i.e Rs 15,000. But problem began when the second cheque bounced.
Chongla explains how he had to inevitably arrange his daughter’s marriage in a neighbouring house and spend the rainy season in a temporary shelter.
If Chongla says the Panchayat has been apathetic, the Panchayat PDO has said he would look into the matter and see to it that justice is done to the poor family.
