Mangalore : The police who are investigating the case of the theft of antique idols worth several crores from the Siddantha Mandir Basadi of Moodbidri, have made headway into the investigation with the arrest of the prime accused Santosh Das alias Ghanshyam from Bhubaneshwar. He was arrested from Srikakulam in Andhra Pradesh with the help of Andhra police.
Ever since police arrested his wife and father-in-law on the charges of abetting the crime, Santosh Das was on the run and had been in hiding in several places. The police who kept track of him through mobile phone tracker arrested him when he was on way to Bangalore from Cuttack.
Police had earlier seized some of the stolen idols from Santosh’s father-in-law Digambar Mohanty’s house at Bhubaneshwar and also gold weighing one kg from Santosh’s bank locker.
Santosh is expected to be brought to Mangalore soon. Meanwhile, his wife and father-in-law are in judicial custody till July 30.
