Mangaluru: The members of Federation of Karnataka Auto Rickshaw Drivers Union under the banner of CITU held a demonstration on Tuesday demanding the withdrawal of fare revision, which was issued by the Deputy Commissioner on January 9.
Balakrishna Shetty said Dakshina Kannada is the only district which has brought down the auto rickshaw fares, when no other district in the state has done it. Besides, the Deputy Commissioner has reduced the fare without holding an elaborate discussion.
“We are ready to reduce minimum auto fare from Rs. 25 to Rs 23 and Rs. 13 for each additional kilometer. Fuel prices may have come down but the living cost remains high”, he added.
L.T Suvarna warned of continuing protest if the district administration does not pay heed to their repeated pleas.
