Kasaragod: A service engineer was arrested for allegedly stealing money from the ATM’s around the locality.
According to the police superintendent Dr Srinivas the arrest has solved a mystery of thefts in the recent past.
The arrested service engineer has been identified as C G Vinod (25) from Kochi.
As per details, Badiyadka police had registered a case regarding a theft which had taken place at Canara bank ATM at Badiyadka on May 9 this year. The amount missing from the ATM on that day was Rs 84,000.
Initially the police did not suspect the service engineer however later while interrogating Vinod confessed the theft. He also admitted that he had robbed Rs 2 lakh at SBT bank Hosadurga in June 2014 and Rs 50,000 at Kerala rural bank Udinoor in March this year.
Vinod was responsible for services of ATM machines in Kasaragod and Kannur districts.
Vinod also deleted the video images from the hard disc after the thefts. Usually a key and digital password is used to open ATM machine in front of bank manager for service purposes.
However Vinod would memorize the password, then make a duplicate key and steal money from the ATM. He would also delete the video images.
