Mangaluru: An assistant professor who was till recently working in a city based college has been arrested on charges of cheating.
The accused is A P Manu, Assistant Professor, Computer science Department, PES college of Engineering in Shivamogga.
It is learnt that Manu was working as assistant professor in the computer science department of Sahyadri College of Engineering, Adyar, Mangaluru from 2009 to 2017. During this period, the college provided him financial assistance of Rs. 7.5 lac to do his PhD from IIT-Allahabad. This apart, the college has reportedly even paid salary to Manu. The college had procured an indemnity bond for the financial assistance and as per the agreement, after his PhD, he should have returned the amount he owed. But, Manu violated the agreement and joined PES college without giving notice or informing the Sahayadri college authorities.
With this, Sahayadri College of Engineering Principal Dr Umesh M Bhushi lodged a complaint following which the accused was arrested.
