Mangaluru: IPS officer, of 1995 batch, Jeji Arun Chakravarthy, is the new Inspector-General of Police (IGP) of Western Range (WR) of Karnataka State police. He assumed charge from Chandrasekar, Commissioner of Police who was in-charge IGP (WR). He succeeds Amrith Paul, who has been posted as IGP (administration) in Bengaluru, has proceeded to take charge. He was IGP(Central Range) before he was posted to his current position

Assuming charge, Arun said the police department always considers the Western Range that consists of Uttara Kannada, Udupi, Dakshina Kannada and Chikamagalur districts as a challenging range, it is a good assignment. Incidentally, I worked as a probationer in DK in the office of superintendent of police.
As superintendent of police in Raichur and Shivamogga districts, Arun said the issue of Left winged extremism is not something new to him. Mahabubnagar and Kurnool districts in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh states are borders of Raichur, they share the problems of naxalite. I will be able to know where does the naxal menace in the state stand.
Arun as a Sociology student was the topper in Bangalore University, Born in Chitradurga, he was chosen as inspector in 25 years ago, but decided to join the IPS after 5 years. While he was Chitradurga District SP, he was deputed to UNO for peace keeping operations in Eastern Europe. After he became DIG, he was posted as director of BMTC, Civil rights enforcement cell directorate, further got promoted as IGP in the Lokayukta too.
