Bantwal: Two persons were killed and three others injured in a late night assault launched by a gang of five here at Farangipet on Monday, September 25.

Zia, a resident of Adyar, and Fayaz are the deceased.

According to reports the assailants who had come in an Innova vehicle intercepted the victims vehicle and assaulted them with swords. While Zia is said to have died on the spot Fayaz succumbed to his wounds at a hospital. An on-duty constable who was near the assault scene saved one of the victims life by taking him to safety of his outpost. The injured are undergoing treatment at a hospital here.

It is learnt that the assailants hail from Kannur area and were looking to settle some old score. Reportedly Zia had been involved in the murder of Ijaz, a resident of Kannur way back in 2014.

A case has been registered Bantwal rural police station and search teams have been formed to nab the accused.
