Arecanut thieves caught near check-post

Bantwal: Punjalkatte police arrested two persons who were allegedly involved in arecanut theft in Bantwal area. The goods tempo and arecanut worth one and half lakhs has been seized by the police.

Prasad from Panjikallu and Santhosh, Alias Santhu Poojary were arrested by the police.

Punjalkatte Station SI Lathesh Kumar and constables on Thursday morning while checking near Dekinakatta stopped the tempo which was heading towards Belthangady from Bantwal. The driver tried to escape from the spot on seeing the police. Soon, police chased the vehicle and during investigation, they found bags filled with arecanut and no documents.

Interrogation of the accused revealed that they had stolen arecanut from BC Road and other places.

The arrested have been produced in the court and and have been sent to judicial custody.

Punjalkatte Station SI and ASI Kutty M K, constables Devappa, Lawrence, Subhash Shenoy, Venkappa, Abdul Latif, Ibrahim, Sathish and vehicle driver Asif took part in the operation.
