Anwar, kin of slain Jaleel emerges victorious in Karopady GP bypolls

Bantwal: Congress candidate Anwar, brother of slain Abdul Jaleel Karopady emerged victorious by securing 449 votes in the Karopady gram panchayat bypolls that was held on Sunday, July 2. The result was announced on Wednesday July 5.

The by polls were necessitated following the murder of Abdul Jaleel Karopady, who was the vice-president of the panchayat.

The polling which was done amid tight police protection saw a turnout of 769 persons out of a total 969 franchisees i.e 400 males and 390 women who cast their votes. BJP candidate Harish Kodla secured 320 votes while 21 votes were declared to be invalid.

A team led by deputy tahsildar, Parameshwar Naik, under the guidance of tahsildar, Purandar Hegde, who was the returning officer for this election counted the votes.
