Mangaluru: St Aloysius Gonzaga School bagged the first place in maintaining Terrace Garden, a competition organised by department of Horticulture in association with DK district administration and Siri Horticulture Association in flower show with fruit and vegetable exhibition which commenced on the Republic Day at Kadri Park.

It was a great moment for the teachers and students of SAGS to receive the prize from the Commissioner of Mangaluru City Corporation, Mohammad Nazir on the culmination day of flower show, held on 29 January 2017 at Kadri Park.

To transform children into nature lovers and to create an awareness among students about maintaining a garden in Roof top, the School had introduced the concept of Terrace Garden in the year 2015, with the support and guidance of Blany D’ Souza, terrace garden expert. This was also one of the International activities of British Council and was exchanged with a School in Pakistan. The main attraction in Terrace Garden were the small yielding trees such as Apple, fig, pomegranate, all season mango, vegetables and herbs.

The garden was well maintained by the Gonzagaites from the word go and their momentum and tempo towards rising to the expected level is to be well appreciated. The Academic Principal Grace Noronha always took keen interest in nurturing the garden through her valuable suggestions and guidance. The success also attributes to the continuous support and hard work of the concerned teachers and students.
