Moodbidri : An incident in which an ancient  fort was partially demolished while levelling a land through JCB, has been reported from Kotebagilu here on Sunday June 8.

Locals, policemen and revenue officials rushed to the spot on gathering information about the demolition of the fort. The land sanctioned by the Land Tribunal to one Karianna Poojary  was sold to another person by Moola Geni rights holder. However that person had sold it to another man recently.

The new owner while getting the land levelled,  had even demolished half of the fort  of Keladi kings located adjacent to the road.

Someshekhar Mayya, Revenue inspector,   Shanker, Village Accountant and others who rushed to the spot, stalled the levelling works.

Locals who gathered at the spot said the fort was being constantly harmed by   people who purchased land in the area while  some have even encroached the side drains. The appeal to ensure that the fort is not harmed has fallen on deaf ears, they said.

If one person told the authorities that it would be best to demolish the  fort if the government cannot   preserve it, another person objected to the same resulting in some confusion.
