Moodbidri :Students of Final year Mechanical Engineering of Alva’s Institute of Engineering and Technology have successfully invented a novel device which can be used to run a vehicle using a solution of water and diesel. The students namely Abhijith, Inston Maric D’Souza, Pavan Kumar and Ullas Shetty have invented this device under the able guidance of the College Principal Dr Peter Fernandes.
The students say a vehicle can be run using water alone if a larger size device is fitted. The device can be fitted to any diesel or petrol run vehicle without any changes in the engine, says Dr Peter Fernandes. The use of this device will also reduce diesel usage by 40 per cent. The device which costs just Rs 2000 is also environment friendly and also increases the efficiency of the engine of the vehicle.
The successful demonstration of a vehicle fitted with this device was held at the College premises recently. Vivek Alva, Managing Trustee of the College, Dr Peter Fernandes, Principal, Prof. KV Suresh, Head of the Mechanical Engineering Division and heads of various departments have appreciated the students for their invention.
A Ray of Hope for the Physically Challenged students
Moodbidri : Final Year Mechanical Engineering Students of Alva’s Institute of Engineering and Technology, Mijar namely Ashwini Alva, Manoj Sachin Pereira, Tejaswi and Pradeep MG have invented a device that can be fitted to a two-wheeler making riding safe for physically challenged people as well as learners.
The device will also help learners learn two-wheeler riding without any assistance and also for women and disabled so that the vehicle can proceed at normal speed. The device has a stabilizing system. There will also be two guide wheels on the left and right side of the rear tyre. When a vehicle proceeds at an average speed of 30 km per hour, the stabilizing system raises on its own and while the vehicle proceeds at a speed below 30 km per hour, the device touches the ground and ensures that the vehicle proceeds at the same speed and will also protect the rider from falling to the ground.
The cost of this device is Rs 22,000 and this can benefit women, disabled as well as learners says Harish K, Associate Professor who guided the students in inventing this device.
Even a demonstration of a vehicle fitted with this device was held at the college premises and the same was appreciated by the faculty and college management.
