Aloysius College to start MSc in Food science and Technology

Mangalore:  St Aloysius College is all set to start new postgraduate course MSc in Food Science and Technology from the current academic year.

College sources told that the Mangalore University has granted autonomous status to the new postgraduate course MSc Food Science and Technology and it will be started in 2013-14.

In order to generate a trained manpower for the food processing sector, the Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MFPI) the Govt of India has sanctioned NMFP Financial assistanceof Rs.75,00,000/- (No. DDH/DK/NMFP/03/2012-13) to St Aloysius College (Autonomous) under MHRD  programme to start a two year post graduate MSc programme, viz., Food Science and Technology.

The college has made all necessary arrangements:

• State of art laboratories
• Qualified Staff – Eminent scientists invited for guest lectures
• Spacious class rooms  equipped with ICT facility
• Comprehensive library with latest editions of books related to the curriculum
• Guidance to integral formation of students/UGC-CSIR

Job opportunities:
Food processing industry has tremendous job opportunities. All students are expected to visit Industries during the industrial tour and are expected to carry out a project in an area of one’s interest in Food Science and Technology which will facilitate the students to get into food industry/academic and research institutes or become an entrepreneur.

Eligibility for Admission:

Candidates shall have studied any branch of Life Sciences with Chemistry/Biochemistry as one of the major/optional/subsidiary subjects securing 45% marks (40% in case of SC/ST candidates) in the aggregate excluding languages at the undergraduate level. Candidates who have obtained their qualifying degree from Universities outside Karnataka state have to produce an Eligibility Certificate issued by the Registrar, Mangalore University at the time of admission. Candidates admitted to the M.Sc. course will have to produce a Migration Certificate issued by the University and Transfer Certificate issued by the College where they last studied.
