Mangaluru: Several journalism students from across the country took part in the UGC sponsored two-day national seminar ‘Media Manthan’. The seminar was organised by the media students of St. Aloysius College, Mangaluru on Friday.
In the inaugural address, Mangaluru South MLA J. R Lobo asked the aspiring journalists to be impartial while reporting issues giving example of reports which were not written in a balanced way. “As a reporter, when you blame anyone, the duty is to get his/her reaction. Sometimes, it does not happen and it may affect the person”, he said.

MLC Captain Ganesh Karnik spoke about the responsibility of media. He said over the years media has taken many forms to go compatible with the taste of the audience rather than making them aware of the factual information.
Juby Thomas, lecturer in the Mass Communication department briefed about the event. She said, “Nearly, 25 colleges have registered to take part in the event. Besides, speakers from Jaipur, Chennai and Orissa will address the students on various topics. The theme is “Changing News Landscapes in India: Prospects and Challenges”. Vishal Nayak, HOD, department of mass communication delivered the welcome speech and welcomed the dignitaries with floral bouquets.
Media Manthan
Media Manthan is the flagship annual event held by the department of mass communication. In the past, the fest has dealt with a variety of themes on various topics such as ‘Media and manipulation’, ‘Media and Environment’, ‘100 years of Indian cinema’ and ‘Advertising’. The event has been a host to students, academicians and media professionals from colleges and organizations all across the country, and the fest includes paper presentations, talks from eminent personalities, competitions and panel discussions.
