Mangaluru: Akshara Santha Harekala Hajabba, the man who brightened the lives of many through his endeavours in field of education, keeping his personal requirements aside, has finally got a house of his own. Health Minister UT Khader on Sunday February 7, inaugurated his new house.

Hajabba, an orange seller, kept pouring all his earnings in a bid to develop a school in the remote area of Harekala, near Konaje, ignoring his own house that remained in dilapidated state. Taking note of the same, United Christian Association (UCA) came up with a noble thought to help him out of building a house for Hajabba.
The house that was inaugurated by Khader was built by the UCA at a cost of Rs 15 lakh.
On September 13 last year, Fr J B Saldanha of Permannur Church, Esha Vittaldas Swamiji of Kemaru Sandeepani Sadanaand, Harekala Mosque Ulema Shareef Khazi Nandawara and Health and Family Welfare Minister U T Khader had laid the foundation stone for the house.
The UCA on December 26, handed over the house key during Christmas Sauhardha Sambhrama that was held at the open air ground near Silver Gate Kulshekar.
Harekala Hajabba has transformed the lives of hundreds of children by taking up responsibility of a Zilla Pancahyat school in Harekala. The Akshara Santha’s inspirational life has found mention in the Kannada textbooks of Kuvempu University in Shivamogga as well as Davangere University.
