Mangalore: AIMIT-St Aloysius Institute of Management and technology, Beeri witnessed Swach Bharath Abhiyaan-a campaign to clean up India and maintain sanitation facilities today at 10 am. The staff and students gathered around the administrative block of the campus.
Chief Guest for the day was Dr Edmond Fernandes, CEO, Center for Health and Development(CHD) and who is also with the Dept of Community Medicine, Yenepoya University.
Dr. Edmond invited all students to participate in that moment of history which jump starts the clean India initiative, praising PM Modi for this noble venture, he said that as we have reached Mars, it is important that we clear up internal challenges we face as a nation.

Cleanliness he said was not a matter of instinct but more a matter of commitment to conscience and country. He requested the youth to inculcate the spirit of volunteering and encouraged them to find time apart from academics towards nation building. He stressed upon the importance to maintain safe hygiene and sanitation.
The formal function started with the welcome address by Professor Rakesh who spoke about the origin of the Campaign way back in 1986. Followed by the Welcome-Address, the gathering was addressed by the Dean of the I.T Department Professor Santhosh Rebello .
Fr. Pradeep Sequeira S.J- Administrator, AIMIT, addressed the gathering and came up with the slogan “Namma Baratha, Swacha Baratha”. He also spoke to the students about keeping the hostels and college campus clean.

After the formal function, students along with Dr Edmond Fernandes, Dean and other faculty proceeded to the back gate of the college and cleaned the garbage around the garbage bin. They cleaned the roads and cleared the mess in front of the gate .Also walked up till the front gate cleaning the roads and the campus. In this way, with the kick start of Swach Barath Abhiyaan in AIMIT, Students became aware of the need to keep their own selves clean, their home, their surroundings, and their society and on the whole INDIA clean.
