Mangaluru: Protesting against Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s participation in a communal harmony rally to be held in the city on February 25, a massive rally was held by members of the BJP along with other right wing groups.
The protest march taken out from Jyothi Circle to Central Maidan on February 24 saw the participation of several leaders like Krishna J Palemar, Shobha Karandlaje, Ratnakar Hegde, Sharan Pumpwell, Jagadish Shenava etc.
Members of Hindu Jagarana Vedike, Vishwa Hindu Parishat, Bajrang Dal and Sri Rama Sene have extended their support for the protest march.
Speaking at the rally, Kerala State BJP Committee member Ravish Tanthri said that they were not opposed to the communal harmony rally and were only protesting the participation of Pinarayi Vijayan whom he held responsible along with Kodiyaari Balakrishnan and P Jayarajan for the prevailing disharmony in Kerala.
Further, he added that Vijayan had no moral right to speak at a communal harmony programme when he openly claimed having eliminated people who came in their path recently.
Meanwhile, the police have made elaborate security arrangements for Saturday’s rally and notices have also been served to over 41 people, who called for a bandh on that day, seeking clarifications.
The right wing activists led by BJP has been at logger heads with the left front-led Kerala government over killings of several right wing activists in several parts of Kerala including Kasaragod and neighbouring state’s Dakshina Kannada district.
