Sullia: After reeling under acute water scarcity, Sullia taluk, which is a Malnad by all means, is now facing another fear.
With the onset of monsoon, the locals are dreading an outbreak of diseases, especially Dengue.
Over the last few weeks, several people have been found suffering from fever and as per sources as many as 46 persons are suspected to be suffering from Dengue.
The blood samples of 46 persons have been sent for testing and the report is awaited.
The fever has been reported mainly from Aranthodu, Thodikana, Peraje, Madappady, Devachalla, Panja, Murulya, Ninthikallu, Nelluru, Kemraje, Yedamangala and nearby areas.
It is said that the inconsistent rainfall only fuels cases of fever and as per records of Sullia Community Health Centre, on an average about 60 to 70 people come to the centre everyday complaining of fever.
As many as 22 persons have been admitted to hospital for treatment, of who as many as 13 are showing signs of Dengue.
Some have even gone to private hospitals for treatment, said CHC Medical Officer Dr Karunakar.
In a span of just five months, ie from January, 2016 to May 15, 2016 as many as 27 confirmed Dengue cases have been reported. However, reports from private hospitals speak of 102 confirmed Dengue cases.
The doctors have urged the people to take precautions to protect themselves from mosquito bite as mosquitoes are said to be the main carriers of this infection.
