After 9 years, murder convict who escaped from jail falls into police net

Kasargod: An under trial serving jail in murder case, who managed to escape from the jail nine years ago was finally nabbed by Kasargod Town Sub Inspector Ranjith Ravindran and team.

The arrested is P Abhilash (40), resident of Kottayam.

In 2001, Abhilash had strangled Bifathumma (50), a resident of Manjeri in Mallapuram district and fled with 17 sovereigns of gold.

Soon, he was nabbed and a Court had convicted him pronouncing him life term in 2003.

He was, since then lodged in Kannur Central Jail.

In 2007 he had escaped from the prison.

Following this, he lived in Kasargod and Calicut and then proceeded to Bengaluru, Mumbai and various other places with fake identity.

Later, he returned to Kerala and lived at several places.

He had managed to get fake Aadhar Card, voter’s ID card and various identifications using fake names.

Over the last few days he was residing in a hotel in Kasargod and when he ran out of money, he came to Kasargod MG Road to sell his mobile.

When Abhilash submitted his Aadhar card at the mobile shop, the owner grew suspicious and intimated the police about the same.

The police who came to the spot took Abhilash to custody and while cross verifying it was confirmed that he had jumped the jail.

The police have seized all the fake ID cards, weapons, masks and gloves from him.

Abhilash had killed Bifathumma after teaming up with his wife Shreeja. However, Shreeja, who was also convicted in the case had finished her jail term and is out.
