Mangalore: Family life is valued in India unlike the west. Five generations together alive and kicking is a time for celebration. Its very rare as life spans in India are short. Normally one can see upto three generations suriviing together. Anything more than that is a bonus, and five – very very rarely heard or seen.

A family from Nadiguthu in Adyar on the outskirts of the city beat the odds as five generations have survived the rigors of life. Kutti alias Korapolu was the seventh descendant of the Kuthethur –Kenna family. His daughter Rukku Shetty had,  20 years ago, the fortune to celebrate the getting together of 5 generations of the family.

But it is her daughter Gulabi Shetty, who has the good fortune to  see five generations of her lineage alive today.

The Generational flow is as follows:

Gulabi Shetty  married Sessanna Shetty of Arkula Pelapady House

Their daughter Ambavati Shetty married Thimappa Shetty of the Adyar Nadiguthu house

Their daughter Sharmila Shetty married Narayana Shetty who settled at Aurangabad Maharashtra

Their daughter Preethi Shetty  married Vineeth Shetty of Shibaroor House

And they recently were blessed with a daughter Pranvi.

Pranvi is the fifth generation daughter to Rukku Shetty,  all alive and well – a rare occurrence and a time to celebrate for the entire family.
