Mangaluru: ADGP Alok Mohan who was in the city to review the deteriorating law and order situation in Dakshina Kannada district said that the police is working to ensure peace and security in the region.
Addressing a press meet at the police commissioner’s office on Thursday, June 22, the ADGP said that the police department had taken a serious note of the recent unfavorable incidents reported in the city within a short time span.
On the murder of SDPI leader Ashraf, the ADGP said that already four teams have been formed to crack the case and bring the guilty to justice. Based on the clues at hand, the police have initiated investigations into the incident and would soon find out the persons involved in the murder. Police are also trying to probe if this was part of any conspiracy to destabilise the situation in the region, he added.
He further informed that separate teams had also been formed to investigate the other untoward incidents as well and nab the guilty.
On transfer of SP and compulsory leave given to ASP, he informed that the department is trying to streamline the working of the police in the coastal region and wanted to be sure that there is no scope for miscreants to tear the social fabric.
Additional forces have been called in from Chikkamagaluru and Karwar in addition to the existing police forces deployed in the region, especially in Bantwal which has witnessed most of the violence. “Also we are maintaining a strict vigil on those communal elements who foster disturbances in the society,” he added.
As many as 12 KSRPF forces have been deployed in Bantwal which has witnessed most of the violence.
Regarding the protest march planned by the BJP on June 24, the officer said that the police have not yet given permission for the same and in wake of the prohibitory orders it will tantamount to unlawful assembly of people in violation of the order.
