Sullia: The ones subjected to atrocities can lodge a complaint with the Human Rights Commission by simply calling at the toll–free number of the Commission. If the violating of human rights is evident then the Commission will initiate action, said State Human Rights Commission Chairperson Meera C Saxena.
Addressing a seminar on Human Rights at Aranthodu Thekkila Community Hall on Thursday Saxena called upon the people in general to be alert about atrocities that take place on vulnerable sections, specially women, children, senior citizens and disabled and bring those episodes of human rights violation to the notice of the Commission.
She opined that even deprivation of basic rights amounts to Human Rights violation and urged the parents to ensure that their girl children are educated.
“There is a need to build an egalitarian society and for that to happen there is a need to treat girls and boys equally. When such an egalitarian society is built the cases of Human Rights violation too will come down,”she said adding that there is need for creating more and more awareness on human rights violation among general public.
Additional Superintendent of Police Dr Vedamurthy said that legal awareness is a must among people to bring down human rights violaton.
