Mangaluru: A trip to the Sultanate of Oman for Bakrid turned tragic after an accident claimed the lives of six individuals, including one man from Puttur.

The deceased from Puttur has been identified as Prashanth Nayak (40), who lived near the Laxmi Venkatesh Temple.

The accident occurred on August 20, when the car in which Prashanth was plying with Ankush Sharma, Sushil Rukhayyar and Gaurav Sharma from Jaipur collided with another car carrying two people. A huge fire erupted immediately after the cars collided, resulting in the charring of the bodies. Prashanth and his friends were in Oman to enjoy the three-day Bakrid holiday.

The authorities were able to positively identify Prashanth’s body, only after the DNA taken from his body was matched with that of his brother Jagadeesh Nayak, who works in Muscat.

According to sources, since all the legal procedures were completed by August 31, Prashanth’s body is said to arrive at his relative’s residence here in Mangaluru either on September 3 or 4.

The family was able to expedite the process with the help of MLA Raghupati Bhat and External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj.
