Moodbidri : The Moodbidri TMC though has made a welcome move towards a Clean Moodbidri Project, the bitter truth is that cleanliness issue is still a major concern in the growing town.

Though the TMC has a waste treatment plant at Karinje for the wastes generated in the town, there is absolutely no arrangement to treat the liquid wastes generated in various parts of the town. The absence of an orderly drainage system is the root cause of the problem.
This has led to health hazards in Nagarakatte, Ontikatte and other areas which are stinking and have made life hell like for local residents who have to bear with the intolerable stench.
The only arrangement for the liquid wastes in the town is a three fourth km long drain from Nagarakatte to Ontikatte. All the waste water from the town are channelized to this drain. However, in the absence of a treatment plant, there is no solution to the problem with over 30 families in the vicinity affected and facing health hazards.
Apart from the menace of mosquitoes, the locals also facing the problem of itching and other skin ailments. The farmers who own fields in the area are also hit hard. The open drain where the waste water is stagnated, creates more problems during monsoons with the drain water once again spreads to the entire area along with rain water.
Locals want the TMC to act and at least resort to frequent fogging to the area. When the TMC chief officer was questioned about this longstanding problem, he said a proposal has been sent to the government to provide underground drainage facility. He said there is also a proposal to have scientific treatment plant at five places to find a permanent solution to the problem.
