Bantwal : Several families in and around Marakkini near here had a feast thanks to a chicken laden lorry which overturned at Marakkini cross near here in the wee hours of Tuesday April 15.

The vehicle carrying over 1200 chickens was heading towards Kerala  on the Kalaldka-Kanhangad road via Adyanadka. It is learnt the vehicle belonging to Sharief  was overspeeding resulting in the mishap which left over 500 chickens dead. Nearly 200 chickens which were injured  and battling for life were taken home by locals to prepare delicious chicken curry. It is learnt, the lorry owner could only get  500 of his chickens back.

All the three men in the lorry including the driver escaped unhurt. The front portion of the lorry was badly mangled in the mishap.
