75th All India Inter University Athletics Championship 2014-15 held

Moodbidri: The 75th All India Inter University Athletics Championship 2014-15 was held in Association with Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Karnataka and Alva’s Education Foundation.

On Saturday Rashmi K from Alvas College got a silver medal in Javelin throw, as she threw the Javelin 46.05 meter high, securing the second place in the Athletics Championship.

Making a great achievement, Rashimi a resident of Puttur, says, since childhood she has been interested in sports. Her parents Balakrishna Shetty and mother Umavathi have always supported her in her interests, she said.

Rashmi who is currently pursuing B.P.Ed in Alvas college said, “In 9th standard I got a medal in javelin in nationals, after which it has been unending, I have been practicing and trying to deliver my best. I work out 5 hours every day.”

“My next target is to throw the javelin in the range of 55 meters”, she added.

Rashmi has already bagged national and university records in her kitty. Amateur – level, All India inter-university level, federation- level where she won many medals. Her dream is to place her name at the international level.

Another 19-year-old girl Jadhav Sanjivini won the first place in the inter university athletics championship. She broke the records of Navjoban Kaur Punjabi Patila (17:00 sec), in the distance of 16.36 sec in Women’s 5000 meter. She even broke the record in women’s 10000 meter run.

She crossed the record of Varade Pooja MD University Rotak (36:04.4 sec) in the distance of 34:58.27 sec. Alva’s Education Foundation, as a part of Athletics championship 2014-15 announced each new recorder an amount of 25000.

Sanjivini a resident of Vadolibai, she says my coach Vijendra Singh inspired me a lot. Presently she is 1st year B.A. student of Bosla Military School – Nasik.

Other awards in her kitty are the World School Olympiad in Brazil, Silver medal in 1500, 3000 meter in Asian school and Gold medal in 4*400 relay, bronze in junior Asian Championship.
