65th Republic Day commemorated in the city

Mangalore: The 65th Republic Day was celebrated by the district administration with solemnity and elaboration at Nehru Maidan on Sunday January 26, in the presence of the members of Lok Sabha, District Vidhana Parishad, Vidhana Sabha, District Panchayat, Police department, School children, citizens and others members of the society.

The National Flag was hoisted by Ramanath Rai, state minister for forest, ecology, and environment in the presence of Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim and other dignitaries.

Emphasizing the importance of Republic Day Ramanath Rai addressed the gathering. He said, “The true essence of Republic Day will be adhered when the constituency is followed, people who are economically disrupt must grow, every citizen should get the basic amenities, people must be employed.”

“For the past 65 years the administration is trying to instigate the welfare of the public and improvise the regulations of the society. We must not allow the evil power to disrupt the peace in the society. Every culture, caste, religion must be cherished”, he added.
 
Several initiatives taken by the government in the past one year was presented in the speech delivered by Ramanath Rai, he spoke about the Anna Bhagaya scheme, the Health welfare scheme for BPL card holder which has been now extended to 1.50 crore APL card holder, Ksheera Bhagaya scheme which is benefited by 1475 schools in the district, Anganwadi schemes, 1.95 crores facilities for Endosulfan patients was initiated, 90 crores have been sanctioned for the Shakleshpura Gundya National highway and many such other instigations made by the government.

GAR, Civil police, KSRP, PRP, Traffic police, women police, Dobberman security agency, NCC army senior, NCC army junior, scouts and guides, Bharat Seva Dal (girls), RSP, RSP (girls) police band participated in the parade.

The ‘Sarvottama Seva Award’ were presented to Kule Gowda MT, Tashildar of Puttur; Subharao Agali from DK; UD Shekhar from Panchayat welfare of Sullia; Hemalata, warden of ‘Samaghar Gurijana Abhivirdhi Yojane’ from Belthangady; Malati, head of ‘Mahila Arogaya Sahayathi’ from Bantwal; P K Krishna of district library from Mangalore.

The ‘Krishi Prashisthi Award’ was given to encourage the level of paddy production in the district and the Taluka. In the district level, Elyas D’souza bagged first place, second place was won by Purushotam Poojary and third was won by Sundhari Shetty. In the Taluka level, Sheena Shetty bagged the first place; Sadashiva Shetty won the second place whereas Sanjivi won the third place.

The vintage vehicle rally organized by Mangalore Sports Association was also flagged off on the occasion. The rally showcased several vintage cars and bikes. Furthermore as a part of ‘Road Safety Week’ the traffic police department also showcased a depiction the safety measures to the gathering.

A cultural program by school children filled the ground with various traditions and ethnicity. The tri-color was portrayed by the students in their performances.

Hitendra the commissioner of Police , MCC joint commissioner Ajith Kumar Hegde, U T Khadar State minister for health, Former Karnataka chief minister D V Sadananda Gowda, Minister Abhayachandra Jain, Capt Ganesh Karnik, Korgappa Nayak, president of Dakshina Kannada Zella Panchayath and others were present.
