60 days ban on sand mining in DK, Udupi district from June 15

Mangaluru: In wake of fishing ban, Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim, has said that sand mining too will be banned from June 15 to August 15, for a period of 60 days.
The ban on fishing as well as sand mining has been pit in place with the view of facilitating fish breeding.

In this regard, the DC has asked the builders, specifically those having taken up government work to make sure that they have adequate stock of sand to continue with their work during the ban period. He added that during the said period, inter-district sand transportation will also remain banned and he also suggested that taluk-level squads be formed to keep vigil on illegal sand transportation during night.

Deputy commissioner of Udupi district, Dr Vishal R, has said that sand mining will remain banned from June 1 to July 31 in the district.
